Frequently asked questions
Do I need to download the Subiaco pARk app before I get to Theatre Gardens?
Yes. Due to the size of the app (approximately 150MB), you will need a Wi-Fi connection to download the app so make sure you do this ahead of time.
What is the best device to download the app onto?
You can download the app onto a smart phone or tablet. Given the screen is much bigger on a tablet, you may find you get a better sense of the artworks.
Subiaco pARk is available for both Apple iOS and Android. We've found the Nexus 7 has problems with this app and we're currently looking into this.
Do I need to have a data connection?
Subiaco pARk works using the GPS on your device so you will need to have a 3G or 4G connection to get the full experience.
If you don't have GPS or a data connection you can still see some of the artworks but they might not be in the right location and will 'jump around'.
The artwork doesn't seem to be in the right place – how do I fix this?
Make sure you turn on location services before 'launching' or starting the artwork in the location outlined on the map screen. Pause for a moment while your device orients itself using GPS.
To turn on location services on an iPhone or iPad:
Settings > Privacy > Location Services > On
Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Subiaco pARk > While using the app
Will I see 'real life' artworks when I arrive at Theatre Gardens?
You won't see physical artworks – the seven artworks are only viewable via the Subiaco pARk app on your mobile device (smart phone or tablet). You will see the moon floating in the air on screen, but not in real life.
What can I expect to see when I arrive at Theatre Gardens?
You will see two large signs at the Bagot Road and Hamersley Road entrances. They are two metres tall and have a map outlining the artwork locations and instructions for downloading and using the app.
You will not see any artworks in the actual park – you can only see the as on the screen of your mobile device once you have downloaded the Subiaco pARk app.
Theatre Gardens is a green and leafy park with beautiful lawn and trees. It is also home to Subiaco Arts Centre and a new children's nature playspace.
How do I make the 'worm' artwork work?
To view Understory, point your device at the three stickers on the footpath near the wooden Subiaco pARk sign at the 'top' of the park (Bagot Road side).
How do I make the 'box' artwork work?
We are all of us always moving works using a 'slider' on your screen. Drag your finger along it and the boxes will move.
