The City of Subiaco recently won the Innovation Award for team community development programs at the Local Government Managers Australia Community Development Conference last month, for its implementation of the Books on Prescription program.
Books on Prescription is a service where general practitioners (GPs) or other health practitioners prescribe a book to a patient that addresses a particular issue. Doctors select specific self help books from a list chosen by experienced health practitioners and issue their patient with a ‘prescription’ to take to the library, where staff can assist with finding the chosen book.

The City of Subiaco is the first Western Australian metropolitan local government to put the program into action, offering a range of self help books available for loan through Subiaco Library. More information about Books on Prescription can be found via the library's services page.
