Summer reading program promotes classic books to kids
Friday 16 January 2015

Subiaco Library has introduced a new reading program to encourage children to read more classic books.

The Children’s Classic Summer Reading Program, which runs until the end of February 2015, aims to foster a love of reading with children and encourage them to enjoy classic stories, as well as contemporary books.

Children  who rent a classic book, identified by a large, red ‘C’ on the spine will collect a stamp each time they visit the library, on the back of a special bookmark. Once they have collected six stamps, they will go in a draw to win a prize.

More than 100 new books have been purchased for the program including the complete collection of Roald Dahl books and children’s literary favourites Snugglepot and Cuddlepie, The Magic Pudding, Seven Little Australians, The Complete Adventures of Blinky Bill, The Hobbit, Thomas the Tank Engine and The Adventures of Pinocchio.

Bookmarks can be collected from Subiaco Library, 237 Rokeby Road, Subiaco during opening hours. The competition winner will be drawn at the end of February 2015.
