Academy Award-winner Shaun Tan visited Subiaco Library this week to celebrate the winners of the city’s 2016 Shaun Tan Award for Young Artists. Almost 1400 artworks were entered in this year’s award and the ffteen best-placed artworks across five age categories received prizes at Monday night’s presentation ceremony.
Mr Tan told the young creatives that he was always impressed by what he saw in the award and this year was no different. “There are sheer idiosyncracies and a quirkiness in this exhibition that you probably won’t see elsewhere,” he said.
Fifty carefully selected works from the competition will be on display at Subiaco Library until Sunday 14 August. Members of the public can vote for their favourite artwork in the People’s Choice Award which closes on Sunday 7 August.
