“blackmarket was one of the most rad, incredible, educational, exhilarating adventures of my lifetime... an original and unique concept executed masterfully. Five star commendation for this creative endeavour!”
- Nancy Doll, May 2015
Welcome to blackmarket – the interactive performance art intervention that invites you into a dark post-financial crisis underworld gripped by black market trade.
Presented by pvi collective, Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA) and the City of Subiaco as part of the 2016 Perth International Arts Festival, blackmarket is an audience participatory work set to take over the streets of Subiaco in a fictional roleplay that sees participants fight for survival as a hustler in a black market economy.
The city will also be running several other blackmarket experiences during PIAF, including artists-in-residence in the lead up, two blackmarket master classes, artist talks and a pop up gallery aftermath in Subiaco.
What is blackmarket?
Participants of the highly anticipated performance season will enter a part roaming-artwork, part real-life video game, stepping into a dark underworld of unlicensed street selling and entrepreneurial trading around Subiaco.
